Weekend Highlights: Heart of the Hub, Festival of Praise, Walter Mosley and More!

Fall is in full swing with midterms around the corner as well as the beginning of “gala season”. There are some staple events that will be coming up and a few that just may surprise you. Get out there and try something new! “Find Your Fab!” Don’t forget to check back for updates and tell ’em where you found the info!

Heart of the HubThursday, October 29th

Join guests from the arts, cultural, education, social justice, medical, historic preservation, and culinary communities in Roxbury and around Greater Boston at the 8th annual Heart of the Hub at Hibernian Hall (184 Dudley St, Roxbury) 6:00pm – 9:00pm. The Heart of the Hub celebrates Roxbury’s physical and cultural assets, and the people who work strengthening them. Tickets start at $50.00, and you can purchase your tickets here!

The biggest gospel tour of the year is coming here! Festival of Praise 2015 comes to The Wang – Citibank Theater (265 Tremont St, Theater District) 7:00pm. The event features some of the greatest names in Gospel including multiple Grammy, Dove and Stellar Award-winning recording artists Fred Hammond, Donnie McClurkin, Kim Burrell, and Hezekiah Walker. Get your tickets to get your praise on! Obehi Janice brings here interpretation of William Inge’s PICNIC with an all Black cast once again to The Space (128 Brookside Ave, Jamaica Plain) 7:00pm. This event is FREE and open to the public. Please register here so that they know to expect you!

The Fab Award-winning party allgood. is back at The Good Life (28 Kingston St) with a Halloween flair. Suggested attire is all black. Doors open at 10:00pm. As always no coat check. No cover. No dress code. Get there early to avoid disappointment!

MassqFriday, October 30th

Fab Lister artist David Callahan is closing out this exhibit Year of The MassQ at the Dudley Cafe (15 Warren St) with a closing reception 5:00pm – 7:00pm. There will be live music and food items available for purchase. The event is FREE and open to the public.

Saturday, October 31st

Have an alternative to Halloween with the For All Souls celebration at Hibernian Hall (182 Dudley St, Roxbury) 10:00pm. Come together to recognize and to honor those who have come before, to celebrate, and to remember. Join Zili, along with Letta Neely, U-Meleni and DJ Leo Alarcon (HOME Boston/ Playroom Boston), and other collaborating artists in an evening of music, spoken word, dance, and visual art. Tickets are $12.00 in advanced and $15.00 at the door.

Walter MosleySunday, November 1st 

Fab Award-Nominee Steve Osemwenkhae is continuing his No MakeUp series at The Paris St Gallery (101 Paris St, Everett) 11:00am – 4:00pm and you are invited to participate! Come with a comfortable smile and a makeup-less face! Families are welcomed. Learn more about the series here!

Get signed up for a special treat, an audience with author Walter Mosley (Devil in a Blue Dress) as a part of the Future Boston’s Urban Male series in partnership with ARTsEmerson, will be interviewed by Future Boston’s Malia Lazu at The Paramount Theatre (559 Washington Street, Theater District). The event takes place from 3:00pm – 5:00pm. It is FREE and open to the public. *Fab Gal Tip*!: There is also another event with him next week in case you can’ t make this one!

Big Freedia is in town at Brighton Music Hall (158 Brighton Ave, Brighton) with a show that starts at 7:30pm. This is an 18+ show! Ticket are $20.00 and can be purchased here!
